Powerful and brave interview about male sexual abuse

Tyler Perry was on Oprah and he talked about being abused both sexually and physically. His description of the sexual abuse was brutally honest and it was very brave especially because men don’t get the same attention as women do about abuse. The whole “Be a man” thing. He even talks about his body betraying him because he was aroused and he was abused by men. Amazing. Link to an article about it.

  1. I'm DID & so am I says:

I didn’t get to see it, but it’s true, male victims don’t come forward because of the shame and they’re supposed to “man up.”

Yup, there are social expectations and stereotypes which put all sorts of pressures on both genders… My ex-husband was abused by his sister from the ages of 7-13, he was told he was lucky he “got some” and “learned it early”. They didn’t see the power imbalance or the abuse associated with the incidents.

    Any abuse is wrong.

    Take care,
